2007 Presidential Scholar candidates have been announced.  The Boise School District has the largest number of graduating seniors in the state of Idaho who qualify as candidates for this year’s Presidential Scholars Program.  Eight out of eleven of those Boise District seniors are from Boise High.  Congratulations to Kyle Antonini, Amanda Baker, Nate Coffman, Betsy Corrick, Mackenzie Fuentes, Abby Lute, Andrew Masser, and Maya Nair.  The program was established in 1964, by executive order of the President, to recognize and honor some of our nation’s most distinguished graduating high school seniors.

Hats off to Boise students Anna Mueller, Joe Burquist, Brendan Rickerd, Julie Christensen, Kelly Woodward, Jennifer George, and Laura Reed who will be participating in the All-Northwest Orchestra in Portland , Oregon , Feb. 15-17.

The Boise High Debate Team has found a great amount of success in recent months. In November, at the Canyon County Classic Tournament, Sam Troutt and Devon Madsen shared the champion title with Diedre Nelms and Katie McConnell in the novice division. In the varsity division, Alex Abel and Colleen Smith tied for first with Stephen Moncrief and Luke Maher.   At another local tournament, many were recognized with speaker awards:  Breanna Brandon and Nicole Nabulsi tied for 5th speaker, Riley Jones was awarded 3rd, and Case Van Dorne took home first. In the varsity division, Alex Abel and Colleen Smith got to quarterfinals and Alex was named 3rd speaker.  Finally, at the nationally recognized Conway Classic Tournament, three Boise High novices were given speaker awards: Diedre Nelms received 14th speaker, Max Reinhardt got 12th, and Katie McConnell was awarded 4th. In the varsity division, Colleen Smith and Alex Abel advanced to double octafinals over fifty other teams; Alex Abel received 22nd speaker, Erik Hasenoehrl got 5th speaker, and Luke Maher was 2nd speaker out of 152 debaters.—thank you to Mr. McGrady

Students with a 3.5 GPA or better will be honored at an Ice Cream Social this month:   Sophomores on Wed, Feb. 21, Juniors Thurs, Feb. 22 and Seniors Fri, Feb. 23.  Special thanks to TCBY for supplying us with these treats to honor our honor students.  This is just a small way to let our students know how much their hard work pays off.  Keep up the great work!
