Invisible
Children,
the captivating movie about three young Americans who travel
to
Uganda
and record the current crisis, will be shown in the Boise
High auditorium at 7:30 pm on Wednesday, September 19th. After
viewing Invisible
Children last spring, a group of Boise High students
decided to act and raise awareness for the current crises in
Sudan
and
Uganda
. The students met to create a new club at Boise High
that promotes social justice. The club's inaugural
event is the showing of Invisible
Children. After the screening, there will be a brief
question and answer period facilitated by a representative
from Invisible
Children. Local
refugee agencies will also host tables with information on
volunteer and donation needs. The screening is free and open
to the
Boise
community. We hope you will join us! –Sharon

JV
Cross Country – Saturday,
the Cross Country team had its first meet of the 2007
season. While
many members of the team weren't able to compete because of
too few practices, 25 members of the team made excellent
efforts. The JV girls did very well finishing 2nd as a team.
Amanda Mosher, 3rd, ran 1 minute 35 seconds faster than last
year and Rebecca Fusselman, 8th, was 57 seconds faster.
Conner
Shelton
, 15th; Haley Willison, 16th; Janis Blaugher, 23rd; and
Megan O'Neil, 29th, ran their first high school cross
country races. Hannah Lawrence, 19th, had a tough time with
the heat but did a good job of holding her pace.
The JV boys didn’t have a complete team, but all
four boys did a very good job.
Austin Prohl, 17th; Max Delawer, 29th; Jackson Reid,
33rd; and Drew Ross, 61st, all ran the course for the first
time. See all results at http://www.boisexc.org/.
Varsity
Cross Country – At
the Jim Driscoll Invitational meet on Saturday, the Varsity
Girls ran very smart races, not going out too hard in the
heat and letting the other teams set the early pace. They
beat two excellent teams in Bishop Kelly and Eagle.
Congrats to Anne Lovelace for her first win of the season;
excellent races by Sarah Olson, 3rd; Kate Jamboretz, 5th
running her first high school cross country race; Jacque
Sahlberg, 11th; Fiona Wilhelm, 12th; Ellen Mering, 15th; and
Katie Lovelace,19th. Next
week, the girls team will attempt to defend the Caldwell
Invitational championship they have won the past two years.
The Varsity Boys were paced by two excellent races by Max
Hardy, 1st and Eric Fitzpatrick, 2nd. Max improved on a
nearly identical course from last year by 57 seconds. He
out-kicked Eric for the victory in the excellent time of
16:34. Eric improved his time on the same course 1 minute 31
seconds. Walker Grimshaw, 12th, had a great day as well
improving his time 1 minute 14 seconds. First timers on the
course, Taylor Molenaar, 11th and Kenton Freemuth running
his first high school cross country race in 22nd, continue
to improve everyday and will really come on as the season
progresses. Tim Ronan, 16th, is learning to make pain his
friend and will improve a great deal by the end of the
season. Seth Hull, 38th, put in a very good effort and will
only get better as he runs more. The
team finished 2nd, a mere six points behind Eagle but will
improve on that as they will be at full strength next week.
