Boise Brave Parent Boosters: If you haven't had an opportunity to return your Parent Booster membership/volunteer form yet, please do so soon.  Your membership and donation are very important to our organization.  Any amount that you donate, large or small, is tax deductible and goes directly towards supporting Academics, Athletics, and Activities at Boise High School . And, it goes without saying, that any amount of volunteer time that you are able to contribute is greatly appreciated too!  You may send your form to the school office or mail it to 2200 W. Sophomores -- Come and sign up to run for office.  You may pick up an application in the ASB office and then return them today, Tuesday, Sept. 4 to Mr. Hettinga in the attendance office.  The year has only just begun, so let’s make it a ton of fun!!

Mock Trial Team -- It’s time to go to court again!  Boise High’s Mock Trial Team is having its first meeting Wednesday, Sept. 5 in Room 215 at lunch.  If you would like to be a clever attorney or a convincing witness, come by and enjoy our success!

 

The Music Department is selling Entertainment Books.  Please contact Mrs. Hartman, Mr. Smyth or Mr. Swenson if you would like to purchase one for $20 and help out our music programs.

    

Career Center News:

--Students looking for a little spending money?  There are several good part time jobs currently being advertised in the career center.  Check it out today!

--Are you a tether ball champion?  Then the Lunch Buddies program needs you.  We are looking for a few good students to serve as mentors for elementary student, one lunch hour every week.  For information or an application see Mr. Hanson in the career center.

--Seniors planning on applying to college should schedule to take or retake their SAT and ACT tests now!  The first SAT is Saturday, October 6 and the registration deadline is Monday, September 10.  The first ACT is Saturday, October 27 and the deadline to register is Friday, September 21.  If you are planning to apply early to college you should be taking your exams by these dates.  Fee waivers are available for those students who qualify for free or reduced lunch.  See Mr. Hanson in the career center for a fee waiver. 

 ---The PSAT is scheduled for Saturday, October 20.  You must take this as a junior to qualify for the National Merit Scholarship Competition.  Tickets will be available in the ASB office.

 --The National College Fair is scheduled for Tuesday, November 6 at the Boise Center on the Grove.  All juniors and seniors will be released after lunch to attend with parent permission.  There will also be an evening program with informative college planning sessions.

  

 

Invisible Children, the captivating movie about three young Americans who travel to Uganda and record the current crisis, will be shown in the Boise High auditorium at 7:30 pm on Wednesday, September 19th.  After viewing Invisible Children last spring, a group of Boise High students decided to act and raise awareness for the current crises in Sudan and Uganda .  The students met to create a new club at Boise High that promotes social justice.  The club's inaugural event is the showing of Invisible Children. After the screening, there will be a brief question and answer period facilitated by a representative from Invisible Children.  Local refugee agencies will also host tables with information on volunteer and donation needs. The screening is free and open to the Boise community.  We hope you will join us! –Sharon Hanson

 

BHS senior, Kyle Knutson, has put together an event, Boise ’s first Got Guts? 5K Run/Walk. This event will help raise funds for the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America whose mission it is to cure and prevent these diseases through research and to improve the quality of life for children and adults, like himself, who are affected by these digestive diseases through education and support.
